(CANCELED) EV+Solar Party

2015 Party Image

First of all, the July 2015 meeting for North Sound EVA is canceled. It was originally scheduled for July 11th.

Instead, we invite you to a family-friendly EV+Solar Party at Tyrel & Trish’s house outside of Bellingham in a few weeks. The details are below.

For the most up-to-date information and to RSVP, please use the Facebook event. You can also comment on this post with questions.

We are excited to invite everyone interested in electric vehicles or solar power to our EV+Solar party, for the second year in a row! Last year was lots of fun, with over 30 people and 13 EVs parked in front of the solar array; we’re hoping for a lot more this time!

Feel free to invite others who might be interested.

Saturday, August 1st, at 1pm

It’s pot-luck; we’ll barbecue some burgers and hot dogs; vegan options included. Bring a side dish, or another main dish, or a dessert, or whatever.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These directions are different than last year, because a bridge is being replaced on Mt Baker Hwy and a portion of that road it is closed for the summer. Google Maps should reflect this by the day of the event, but your car’s navigation probably will not.

Our address is:
2892 E Smith Rd
Bellingham, WA

From the south (Seattle, etc.):

  • Take I-5 to Exit 255.
  • Turn right on to WA-542 / Mt Baker Hwy / Sunset Ave.
  • After 4.7 miles, turn left on to Everson-Goshen Rd.
  • After 2.0 miles, turn right on to E Smith Rd.
  • After 2.0 miles, we’re on the left. You’ll first see a big red barn.

From Canada:
There are too many possible routes, depending on which border crossing you’re using, so just use Google Maps. We’re closest to the Sumas / Abbotsford crossing but also close to Lynden / Aldergrove and you can also get here from Peace Arch, of course.

IF YOU’RE DRIVING AN EV, pull in next to the big red barn (there will be a sign for “EV Parking”) and follow the driveway back to the solar array. Drive slowly, it’s bumpy — Model S owners should raise suspension as high as possible.

EVs may park out by the solar array (next to the barn, follow the sign). Others may park along the side of Smith Rd and in the gravel area kitty-corner to our house. See the Facebook event linked above for a parking map.

If you’re bringing an EV to the party, if at all possible please charge before and/or after coming, as we don’t have the capacity to charge every EV that comes. For LEAFs and other CHAdeMO-equipped vehicles, there is an AeroVironment DCQC in Bellingham. For Model Ss, there’s the Supercharger in Burlington for those of you coming from the south.

However, if you do need to charge on-site, we have several options:

  • Two 6.6 kW J-1772 (Level 2) charging stations
  • One 3.8 kW J-1772 (Level 2) charging station
  • Two 1.4 kW J-1772 (Level 1) charging stations

If you have a need to use any of these, please contact us BEFORE ARRIVING to reserve a charging station for your use. If possible, please let us know how many kWh you’ll need; otherwise, how many miles/km of charge. If you have a 2011-12 LEAF or other vehicle which can only charge at 3.3 kW, please also include that information so we can put you on one of the slower charging stations and reserve the faster ones for those who can use their full capability.

We hope to see many of you there!
